Safe things to check first

- 2Look at the bake element with a flashlight for a blister, split, or bright scorch mark.
- 3Open the door and press the gasket with your finger to feel for flat, hard, or missing spots.
- 4On an electric range, check the breaker panel for a half-tripped double breaker, which kills bake but leaves the clock lit.

Why is my oven off by fifty degrees?
Usually the temperature sensor. It is a thin probe inside the cavity that reads resistance. As it ages the reading drifts and the control board heats to the wrong target. We measure it cold, compare it to spec, and replace it if it is out of range.
My oven locked itself during self-clean. Now what?
Self-clean runs the cavity extremely hot and the door latch stays engaged until it cools. If it stays locked after several hours, the latch motor or a thermal fuse likely gave out. That fuse is a common self-clean casualty. Call us and we will look.
Is a gas oven that smells like gas at startup dangerous?
A brief whiff as the igniter warms is normal. A lingering smell, or a loud thump when it lights, is not. Shut the oven off, ventilate the kitchen, and leave it alone. If you smell gas with the oven off, call your gas utility first.
Can you fix a wall oven, or only ranges?
Both. Wall ovens need pulling out of the cabinet to reach the back panel, so we allow extra time and protect your cabinet faces. Double wall ovens often share one control board, which is why the top can fail when the bottom acts up.
How long does an oven repair take?
Many element, igniter, and sensor jobs finish in one visit if the part is on the truck. Control boards and door glass sometimes need ordering, especially on older or import models. We tell you which situation you are in before we leave.
Should I repair an oven that is fifteen years old?
Often yes. Older ovens have simpler parts and heavy insulation. If the cavity is solid and the wiring is clean, an element or sensor swap gets you years more. We will say plainly when a repair does not make sense for the shape it is in.
