Cooktop Repair — Book a Visit Today

Cooktops fail in small ways first. A burner that clicks and clicks before it lights. A glass surface that stays lukewarm on medium. An induction zone that beeps and quits mid-boil. Usually it traces back to a worn igniter, a cracked surface element, a bad control switch, or a wiring connection that heat has slowly cooked loose. Older farmhouse circuits and hard well water make both of those worse. When we come out, we pull power, lift the top, and test the parts in the order they actually fail instead of guessing. You get told what we found and what it needs before any work starts. Call us and describe what the burner is doing.

Cooktop Repair — residential cooktop being serviced

The cooktop symptoms we hear most

  • "It clicks forever before it lights" Weak igniter, moisture in the burner cap, or a failing spark module
  • "One burner won't heat at all" Open surface element, burnt receptacle terminals, or a dead infinite switch
  • "Everything runs full blast no matter the setting" Shorted infinite switch or a control board relay stuck closed
  • "The glass top has a crack in it" Impact or thermal stress damage — needs the glass panel addressed before use
  • "My induction zone beeps and shuts down" Cooling fan blockage, overheat sensor, or unsuitable cookware sensing fault

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Smell gas? Shut the supply valve off, open windows, leave the house, and call from outside.
  • 2Check the breaker panel — many cooktops sit on a double-pole breaker that can trip half-on.
  • 3Lift and reseat gas burner caps and grates; a cap off-center will keep a flame from catching.
  • 4Look for spilled food packed into the igniter slot and let the burner dry fully after cleaning.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call us or fill out the form. Describe the noise, the smell, the puddle. Brand and model help. We ask a few questions so the van carries the right parts before we ever pull in.

  2. Step 2

    We come find you

Gravel drive, creek crossing, farm lane off a county route — give us a landmark and we'll get there. We text before we head out so nobody sits by the window all day waiting.

  3. Step 3

    Diagnose, then repair

We open the machine, test the part, and show you what failed. You hear the plan before any work starts. Common parts ride with us, so many jobs finish on the same visit.

Cooktop Repair — quick answers

Can you repair a glass or ceramic cooktop, or does it have to be replaced?

Depends what failed. Elements, switches, and wiring under the glass are all serviceable. A cracked or chipped surface is different — the panel itself becomes the repair, and we tell you honestly whether that makes sense on your unit.

My gas burner lights but the flame is orange and lazy. Is that a problem?

It means the air-to-gas mix is off. Common causes are a partly blocked orifice, debris in the burner ports, or an air shutter that shifted. It burns dirty and wastes fuel, so it's worth having looked at.

Do you work on induction cooktops?

Yes. Induction failures usually come down to cooling fans, thermal sensors, or the power board under the coils. We test the coil and the board separately so you know whether it's a small part or the expensive one.

Why does my electric burner cycle on and off while cooking?

That's normal for most electric coil and radiant tops — the infinite switch pulses power to hold a temperature. If the cycling got noticeably longer or shorter than it used to be, the switch is likely wearing out.

Should I clean the cooktop before you arrive?

Helpful but not required. Wiping grease off gives us clearer access to screws and burner ports. Skip harsh scrubbing on glass tops, and please don't spray cleaner down into igniter openings.

How do I know if it's the cooktop or the house wiring?

We check both. In older homes here, a scorched receptacle, an aluminum splice in a junction box, or a loose neutral will mimic a dead burner. If the fault is upstream of the appliance, we tell you plainly.

  • 3Get the quote in writingIncluding the trip fee, whether it's credited against the repair, and parts.

Why homeowners call us

  • Coal-country water eats machinesHard water and iron leave scale on heaters, valves, and pumps. Dishwashers film over. Washers clog. We see it every week and we clean and replace the parts that mineral buildup actually ruins.
  • Old farmhouse wiring, respectedPlenty of homes here run on two-prong outlets and panels older than the appliance. Low voltage and shared circuits cause faults people blame on the machine. We check the power before condemning a board.
  • Mike's name on the truckThis is a small workshop, not a call center. The person who answers knows the tech who shows up. If something isn't right after we leave, you call us and reach us directly.
  • Independent on every brandWe work on refrigerators, ranges, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and freezers from all major makers. No brand tells us what to recommend. Sometimes the honest answer is that a repair isn't worth doing.
  • All major brands, gas & electricWhirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and more — as an independent repair company.
  • Straight answersIf it isn't worth repairing, we'll say so — often on the phone.
